IITTM offers two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programmes approved by AICTE in the following areas :

  • Tourism & Travel
  • Tourism & Leisure
  • Services
  • International Business (International Tourism)
  • International Business (Tourism & Logistics)
  • Tourism & Cargo Management

  • Candidates seeking admission to the PGDM programme shall be required to possess a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline of a University or equivalent thereto with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/ PH).
  • Reservation for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and physically challenged candidates will be applicable as per Govt. of India rules.
  • Physically challenged candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates appearing for the final examination of graduation are also eligible to apply, provided they complete it with requisite grade / percentage of marks by October 31, 2014.
  • In case the candidate fails to establish eligibility by this date, the admission would be cancelled and fees will be forfeited.

The admission to IITTM is a four-step procedure :

  • Applying
  • Screening for admission
  • Merit list and offer of admission
  • Admission
  • Applying

  • Screening for admission

    Admission to the programme shall be through an admission process of 100 points. A weight of 70% shall be for the performance in Admission Tests considered for the purpose by IITTM. IITTM considers MAT / CAT / CMAT / XAT / GMAT for admission to its programmes. Another 15% points each are for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) respectively. A candidate to be eligible to be considered for admission must participate in all components of the admission process, i.e., one of the Admission tests, GD and PI. Merit for admission to the programme shall be determined by the institute.
    • Eligible candidates must write any one of the national level exams :
      • Valid MAT score (September 2013, December 2013 and February 2014)
      • Valid CAT score (2013)
      • CMAT (September 2013 and February 2014)
      • XAT (January 2014)
      • GMAT 2014
    • They must mention their score on the application. In case a student has appeared for more than one exam, the best of the scores will be considered.
    • The last date for applying along with the valid scores of MAT, CAT, XAT and GMAT is Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
    • Short-listed students will have to appear for GD and PI at any one of the IITTM centres :
      IITTM, Bhubaneswar & Nellore : May 10-11, 2014
      IITTM, Noida & NIWS Goa : May 17-18, 2014
      IITTM, Gwalior : May 24-25, 2014
    • Candidates must come with all original documents for verification before being allowed for the GD and PI.
  • Counselling and offer of admission

    The institute will declare results of the first screening for admission on Wednesday, June 04, 2014.
    • The result will also indicate the programme allotted as per merit of the candidates and the choice exercised by them. This will be the first list.
    • Allotment of seats along with the waiting list will be displayed separately for each of the programmes.
    • At this stage the candidates may report to the reporting centre with non-refundable processing fees through a demand draft of Rs. 10,000/- in favour of Director - IITTM, payable at Gwalior. Fees will be payable only if the candidate seeks admission at this stage.
    • The reporting centres are as follows :

    • At this stage a candidate will have two choices on payment of processing fees :
      • Confirm the seat allotted
      • Take admission on seat allotted and keep the option of up-gradation. This means the admission on the allotted seat is confirmed but the candidate will be automatically upgraded in case of availability of seats.
      • Candidates in the waiting list who do not exercise the above option will be considered for the second merit list for higher preferences only but will not have any right to seat allotted during the first counselling.
    • The seats reserved for various which remain unfilled after all the candidates of reserved category are exhausted will be de-reserved and will be allotted to unreserved candidates.
    • Based on candidates reporting during the first allotment for the unfilled seats will be made public in the second merit list on Monday, June 16, 2014.
    • At this time students can exercise same two options as in case of first allotment. Those who have used the second option (5b) and are still not allotted seats of their higher choice must report and confirm if they are satisfied with the existing allotment or would again go for upgraduation. Failing this they would be considered confirmed on the allotment during the first counselling.
    • Third and final counselling will be spot counselling at IITTM Gwalior for seats remaining vacant after the second merit list. This counselling will be on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
  • Admission

    Candidates offered admission must deposit the fees on or before Tuesday, June 15, 2014 failing which the seat would be considered vacant.
    • Admission on vacant seats will be offered to other candidates during last counselling on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
    • Those candidates who have reported and have been allotted a course and who do not deposit the balance fees will be considered as abstaining willfully and the seat will be allotted to others. Such candidates will forefeet their processing fees.
    • IITTM will not be responsible for any delay in postal services.
    • Processing fees of Rs. 10,000 will be accommodated in the total fees for those who deposit their fees on or before Tuesday, June 15, 2014.
    • Candidates, who have deposited their entire due fees and want to leave the course, will be allowed to do so by Friday, June 20, 2014. In such case, deduction of their processing fees and a deduction of Rs. 1,500 will be made as per AICTE norms.
    • No fees are refundable after Friday, June 27, 2014.

IITTM has a modest fee regime. The fee is payable at the beginning of each semester.

The inclusions in the fees are described as following :

First Semester
Admission fee, tuition fee, students’ welfare, sports, cultural activities, library and computer, examination fee, insurance cover, caution money deposit (Rs. 5,000), etc. Fees for PGDM (TT) and PGDM (TL) programmes include a study tour for them.

Second Semester
Tuition fee, examination fee

Third Semester
Re-registration fee, tuition fee, examination fee, library and computer, placement activities, convocation, alumni membership, etc.

Fourth Semester
Tuition fee, examination fee

Note :
  • Hostel fee is applicable only to students who are allotted hostel by the institute.
  • Caution money deposit is refundable.
  • Students admitted to PG Programme in International Tourism Business (PGDM-IB) at Gwalior Campus may opt for mentorship by providing for an additional fee of Rs. 1.0 lakh plus taxes for mentorship to Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.
  • Students being admitted to PG Programme in Tourism and Travel (PGDM-TT) at Bhubaneswar Campus may opt for mentorship by Zenith Holidays Pvt. Ltd. The mentorship fee is Rs. 1.0 lakh plus taxes.

  • Travel Agencies / Tour Operators

    Under this segment the work includes itinerary designing, file handling, ticket bookings and tour management. The next generation travel industry is eyeing for capable freelancers and travel writers, as videography has triggered the situation of demand for the capable travel documenters.
  • Hotels, Resorts, Motels and other means of accommodation

    Accommodation is an essential component of tourism. The electronic commerce era has added on to the job markets for the travel professionals in the capacity of Hotel reservation systems and the other facilitations related to the business tourism and corporate travel management.
  • Guiding Services

    Having knowledge about the destination, monuments, related stories, historical significance are the basic requisites to be a tourist guide, knowledge about a foreign language is an added advantage.
  • Transport / Transfer services for tourists

    Well organised companies are now entering into this field and they follow pure professionalism in terms of service delivery to their clients. The intermodal transportation has formed the life vein of India.
  • Tourist campsites, Picnic sites

    Many of the companies are providing specialised services in organising Tourist camps in different locations like mountains, deserts, glaciers and jungles. These companies also focus on the proper safety, hygiene and client satisfaction.
  • Traditional cuisines - restaurants, cafes, food stalls / outlets, etc.

    A good hygienic food adds significance to a tour. Tourists always look for traditional and local cuisines of a destination and this creates an opportunity for the innovators to come up with theme-based or traditional cuisine restaurants. The ethnic restaurants in India have created opportunities for hotel man trade jobs and restaurant managers and keepers.
  • Cultural centres

    These are the places where local residents can perform their art, dances and cultural ceremonies. The foreign countries’ cultural centres in India are into many activities like screening their movies, promoting local attractions in India teaching the basic level foreign language, which is going to accommodate travel literates into them.
  • Safaris and Bird watching tours

    Several forest departments are encouraging the occupation of Nature Guiding for the nature enthusiasts which draws the opportunities for the experts from botany and zoology to pursue Tourism education as a supportive curriculum for further scope in their livelihood.
  • Adventure Sports - Hot air ballooning, Skydiving, Scuba diving and other Water sports

    Geographical conditions of the country creates ample of opportunities for the growth of Adventure tourism. Adventure tourism in India is picking up very with a great scope of career for the youngsters in destination management companies, resorts and adventure companies.
  • Curio and Craft factories

    Souvenir represents an image of a destination and by learning skill of making local handicrafts, one can easily start his own business or can become a part of pre-existing business.
  • Rural, Farm and Agritourism

    As approximately 70% of Indian population constitutes a part of rural India, so such kind of upcoming tourism types can be more useful in providing employment opportunities and empowerment of rural population.

    To equip people to work in tourism industry, training and educational facilities are available from skill training to graduate and post graduate levels. While skill training is provided as vocational training by different state and private institutes, higher education is the domain of universities and autonomous institutes.

    Post graduate education in tourism is provided by Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) through its four campuses. IITTM functions under Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India and consistently modifies its curriculum to meet the needs of the market.

    The potential admission seekers in tourism shall have some inherent qualities, like passion of travelling, exploring, etc. The skills required to support these basics are such as communication, product knowledge, servitude and business acumen can be acquired through education.

    Tourism industry offers immense opportunities to grow through entrepreneurship even in small towns. What is required is the spirit of exploration and expansion.

IITTM will accept the Valid Scores of AIMA MAT Exam to be held in May 2014. For that, the aspirants have to send the followings to IITTM Gwalior before April 30, 2014 :

  • Admission Form
  • Demand Draft
  • Photostat copy of MAT Form to be applied for May 2014 exam
When the aspirant will get their Valid Score Card (VSC) of MAT Exam to be held in May 2014, they have to send the Photostat copy of VSC to IITTM Gwalior, for their candidature in Admission 2014-16.
